Violence has become a very prominent social problem in our society, specifically gun violence in schools. The United States in the past 15 years has seen some of this nation's worst tragedies in school shootings: Columbine, Virginia Tech , and the Sandy Hook Elementary school shootings are a few acts of violence that have shaken our country the hardest. The reason this is such a huge issue right now in our society is the fact that there are on-going debates on whether American people should be allowed to bare arms legally as the Second Amendment of the United States establishes. Some people argue that there should be tighter gun control laws that require psychiatric evaluation before people are allowed to purchase guns; and some people argue that even if someone was denied a gun they would still be able to illegally obtain one if they wanted to commit a crime.

This article proves that gun violence is a huge issue in our society because people from other countries are so scared of guns that they do not feel safe in the United States.

“Every year, an average of 9,200 Americans are murdered by handguns, according to Department of Justice statistics. This does not include suicides or the tens of thousands of robberies, rapes and assaults committed with handguns. This level of violence must be stopped.” - Ronald Reagan
